Production issue

We're having an interesting production issue in the sugarhouse tonight...it's cold outside and the sap is freezing in the pipe coming in from the tank. This is causing it to just barely trickle into the preheater.  Haven't experienced that one before.

5 hours of boiling

We started today with a newly scrubbed evaporator and fresh sap. Been at it for a while now. Even the sugarhouse dog is getting tired.

Sign of spring?

If you blow the pic up and look just above the horizon you'll see a couple Fox n Canada geese headed north. Hopefully its a signal that spring has arrived.

Line repair

My set up was putting too much tension on the anchor nearest my collection tank so we added some support. The wire headed to the tree behind the tank is new and hopefully keeps everything in the right place.

Making syrup

We've begun making syrup after several false starts this season.

Finally

Looks like we are finally getting a sap run. It's very, very late this season. Last year we were getting sap runs in February! Guess it's time to get to boiling. The first syrup of the season is supposed to be the lightest. We'll be sure to let you know.
